While every month is a great month to adopt a shelter dog (or cat), October is officially "Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month." Here are the top five reasons to adopt a shelter dog, according to the Humane Society of the United States:

- You won't be supporting puppy mills and pet stores.

We adopted a Corgi/Collie(Border) mix from Richardson Rescue on September 22, 2012. She is finally feeling at home with us. Was glad to pay the fee as their whole atmosphere was to love and care for the pets there.
