Hello and welcome to Carolina Mountain Dog! This "blogazine" is for you if you love dogs and you live in or near the Carolina mountains (or wish you did). It celebrates the unique relationship of dogs and the mountains, offering news of interest and valuable information about what to do and where to go with dogs in Western North Carolina and the South Carolina Upstate. Carolina Mountain Dog strongly advocates for humane treatment of animals, animal rights, spay/neuter, and adoption of shelter animals.
Carolina Mountain Dog is written by me, Barry Silverstein. I am a professional writer and dog lover.
I am actively involved in the Asheville, NC animal community. I conceived and launched the Buncombe County Save A Life Campaign (www.imalifesaver.org). I provide marketing counsel to Asheville Humane Society and write/publish their monthly volunteer e-newsletter. I helped my wife launch Bandanas Mobile Grooming (www.bandanasgrooming.com), an Asheville-based mobile dog grooming business. I provide marketing strategy for Dog Tag Art (www.dogtagart.com), an Asheville-based business targeting upscale dog owners. My wife and I own three dogs (all of them adopted from shelters or rescue organizations) and we foster animals for Asheville Humane Society on a regular basis.
In addition to writing for business and marketing websites and select clients, I have written for Dog Fancy, New Life Journal, Retirement Lifestyles, and WNC magazines. I am the author of six non-fiction books about branding, Internet marketing and small business. I am also a professional counselor for small business owners at the A-B Tech Community College Small Business Center in Asheville, NC.
