"Thrive! Together," a new community-oriented initiative that will extend for 1000 days, has been announced by Asheville Humane Society. The program is designed to support the organization's core belief that "pets and their people deserve a safe and healthy community in which to live and thrive...together." According to Tracy Elliott, the Society's Executive Director, "The next evolution is for shelters to be a place where no animal ends up, because the problems that result with animals being in a shelter are solved at their source -- in the community, in neighborhoods, and in homes."
Thrive! Together will focus on three priorities:
- Safe: Expand adoption and relocation programs to connect more people with homeless animals and to ensure that all adopters are enabled to provide safe and humane care
- Healthy: Expand medical, behavioral and foster support programs to save more treatable animals
- Thriving: Expand community outreach initiatives to reduce the homeless pet population, keep companion animals with their families, and educate the public about safe and humane care.
The organization has staffed a new Community Engagement department to implement the initiative. According to Angie Wilt, the Society's Director of Operations, "We must activate collaboration within our community if our progress is to flourish and remain sustainable. Community engagement is the future of animal welfare."
Asheville Humane Society enthusiastically encourages the entire community to join in the Thrive! Together initiative, which will officially kick off on October 5. Watch the organization's website and Facebook page for additional details.
