WNC Humane Societies Benefit from "Project Santa"

For the sixth year, Project-Santa in Flat Rock, NC has launched a pet food donation drive that will last through December 31. The organization is collecting USA-made pet food and treats, along with pet toys, collars and leashes, as well as paper towels and other cleaning supplies. Food collected will help Blue Ridge Humane Society and Foothills Humane Society this year and will also help individuals and families who may need temporary assistance feeding their pets. "Santa" stands for "Supporting Animal Needs Through Action."

Asheville Adoptions with No Fees Through December 23

Love Actually is a Four-Legged Word! 

This holiday season, you can find priceless love at Asheville Humane Society. Visit the Adoption Center, 14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville, Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 AM to 6 PM. (Note: Dog and cat rooms are closed for "Naptime" from 1 to 2 PM daily.) The Adoption Center is conveniently located off Brevard and Pond Roads, near the WNC Farmers Market.

Find the love of your life and Asheville Humane Society will waive the adoption fee for dogs 25 pounds and up and for all cats! This special no-fee adoption promotion, sponsored by Prestige Subaru, is available through Friday, December 23.

Although the love of a pet is priceless, the fee-waived adoption represents an exceptional value. All adoptions include spay/neuter, all up-to-date vaccines, microchip and free 1-year registration, a free starter bag of food, and a free post-adoption veterinary office visit with a participating veterinarian.

Pet Food Drive Through December 31 - Asheville

Food donations of both wet and dry dog and cat food can be brought to the Adoption Center, 14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville (off Brevard and Pond Roads, near the WNC Farmers Market) Mondays through Saturdays, 10 AM to 6 PM. Specific items needed by Asheville Humane Society can also be found on their Amazon Wish List here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/235J7CAX5V0A3

There are many people in Buncombe County who cannot afford food for their pets. Through the Humane Society's Safety Net program, pet food is distributed to those in need via community food pantries. Find a list of food pantries here: http://ashevillehumane.org/resources/pet-food-assistance

Individuals in need will be offered a one week supply of pet food if they come to the Buncombe County Animal Shelter, 16 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville (off Brevard and Pond Roads, near the WNC Farmers Market) during regular business hours, Mondays through Saturdays, 9 AM to 6 PM. They will then be directed to a partnering food pantry in their area.

'Home for the Holidays' Adoptions - Hendersonville, $25

Screen Shot 2016-12-05 at 10.25.15 AMDuring the month of December, Blue Ridge Humane Society will be running a 'Home for the Holidays" adoption promotion. All animals 6 months of age and older will be available for the special adoption fee of just $25. This fee includes spay/neuter, tests, vaccines, de-worming, and a free check-up at participating veterinarians.

The Blue Ridge Humane Society Animal Shelter is located at 88 Centipede Lane in Hendersonville. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM (closed Mondays).

If you cannot adopt, stop by their Thrift Store for some great bargains. The Thrift Store is located at 1214 Greenville Highway in Hendersonville. It is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM and Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM. Donations may be dropped off during these hours, but donations will not be accepted on Sundays.

Hiking Hounds - Asheville, Dec. 11

Hiking houndsHiking Hounds is one of the most popular Asheville Humane Society volunteer activities. Each month, volunteers take shelter dogs on hikes as part of the enrichment programming. You'll spend a few hours in Bent Creek hiking the trails with dogs who will love you for it.

The next hike with the Hiking Hounds group is Sunday,December 11. Start time is 10 AM for repeat hikers and 9:30 AM for new hikers. Note: New and repeat hikers alike are required to sign up in advance. If you'd like to sign up for this hike, email ahshikinghounds@outlook.com.

Hikers are signed up on a "first come-first served basis" and you must have a confirmed reservation to attend a hike. And please make sure you can actually make the hike; if we have late cancellations, a dog gets left behind without a hike.

Rock for Rescues - River Arts District, Asheville, Dec. 9

On Friday, December 9 at 8 PM, "Rock for Rescues" will be held at The Grey Eagle, 185 Clingman Avenue in the River Arts District, Asheville. The concert, which will be an annual event, is a benefit for Asheville Humane Society with tickets available at just $10 each.

The concert will feature the performers Poet Radio, Mason Jar Menagerie, Brother Oliver, and The Mudbottoms.

All proceeds from Rock for Rescues will go directly to Asheville Humane Society to help provide food, bedding and medical care to Buncombe County animals in need.

Free Puppies W.I.N. Session - Asheville, Dec. 10

It will help you understand what is age-appropriate puppy behavior, learn how to establish good habits to prevent problems from developing, and discover how to take advantage of your puppy’s socialization window.

Puppies W.I.N. is open to anyone who is interested in understanding more about their puppy – or who might be preparing to bring a puppy into their home.

Paws to Give - Asheville, Dec. 8

Join Brother Wolf Animal Rescue for Paws to Give on Thursday, December 8. This festive holiday evening benefits animals in need. It's a fun, formal event that includes a delicious plated dinner, drinks, a live and silent auction, and live entertainment.

There will be something for everyone on your holiday list at the auction. Browse items from local restaurants and shops, bid on exciting travel packages and take part in unique giving opportunities. When you do your holiday shopping with Brother Wolf, all proceeds go directly to supporting animals in need.

The event will be held at The Venue in downtown Asheville. Cocktail hour and silent auction begins at 5:30 PM. Plated dinner and live auction begins at 6:30 PM.
